Most conversations don’t begin with a specific property. They begin with questions.
Maybe you’re trying to decide between Lisbon and Cascais. Maybe you’re wondering whether the Algarve fits the life you have in mind. Maybe Porto is on your list, or you’re looking for something completely different.
You may be trying to decide whether to rent first or buy right away. Or perhaps you’ve already done the research and you’re ready to begin looking for a home. That’s all useful context.
The more I understand about the life you’re trying to create in Portugal, the better I can help you think through the real-estate decisions that come with it.
If you’ve spent time reading An American’s Guide to Moving to Portugal, you’ve probably noticed that I don’t believe the property search should be the first decision you make.
There are plenty of things worth understanding first.
Where do you actually want to live?
What does everyday life there look like?
Do you want to walk everywhere, or are you comfortable depending on a car?
How important is access to an international school, airport, hospital, beach, golf course, or city center?
Are you ready to buy, or would renting first give you valuable experience before making that decision?
These aren’t obstacles to buying a home. They’re part of figuring out which home—and which location—actually makes sense for you.
So don’t worry if you’re still early. That’s often a very good time for us to talk.
